A sound article.
When I read Marcus Aurelius and Seneca, I felt like stoicism was good for the sort of World they lived in. Where emperors were killed in their sleep or a crazy teenage ruler might throw you in front of hungry lions. What could they do except negative visualisation and the ultimate steeling of nerves when brushed past the prospect of a brutal death so closely every single day.
It's a way of life they chose. More out of their need to maintain their sanity in very pressing times.
And perhaps, it worked for them. Yes, stoicism helps the modern human to try to live with the fact that life shall not work like clockwork as it touted in the modern world.
Life is much smoother now. But still full of little injustices and insanities that make us suffer on the inside while projecting something else on social media.
In that sense, just brushing your fingers over philosophy can help stay sane. Maybe people don't want to go any deeper because there isn't any urgent need to.
Personally, I love Schopenhauer.
