Ears

A poem

She waits by a misty window
Idly counts the drops.
Until he arrives
Carrying his brown eyes.

It rains shivers.

They order two lemonades,
Crisp and sweet.
Tongues burning at ends,
Carrying unspoken arguments.

It rains tears.

‘How’ve you been?’
And ‘Don’t you look the same.’
Hollowed out niceties,
Once again, replace realities.

It rains fears.

What if they’d held out?
Walked in each other’s shoes.
The frowns may have crowned,
Laments they had drowned.

Its rains ears.
