I feel the same angst.
In India, we're following a similar trend. It's about skin colour. So, the social expectation for women is to appear as fair as you can.
And NOW, the same celebrities who are actually dark skinned [but have got skin lightening procedures done to themselves] advocate dark skin women.
Women call each other dusky beauties, black swans and whatnot. It's bothersome. If you're so fixated on calling out your skin colour - giving it pretty names and feeling special about it - that shows how UN-OKAY you are about the whole thing.
The point is this: If you want to accept women of all colour, just shut up about skin colour. Acceptance comes from what you do on a regular day not what you come out to say on television. Ahem, with your chemically lightened skin.
