I live in a suburb in India. By suburb, I mean, next to wheat fields. Here, I see village women carry wood and fried leaves on their heads everyday as fuel. That is precious fire to them, and fire translates into food. Here I am, sitting in my air conditioned car, watching this woman glide by - carrying 5kg of dried twigs over her little head - and I wonder WHY in this Big Tech world does she do that.
LPG (liquid gas used in burners for modern stoves) costs 1000 rs. Per cylinder. That is roughly 13 usd. The average daily wager or poor farmer in India does not earn enough to afford LPG. Which, by the way, is not a climate friendly alternative anyway.
I am the girl in your classroom. And my question is the same - how do we solve the problem in a way that the village woman's problem gets solved?
